Easter Seals has an occupational therapy clinic as well as the Peer Connections program. The OT clinic helps children with disabilities. They provide parent education and work with the children in both groups and with individual children. Peer Connections serves students 16-24 who need peers to model appropriate social communication skills in a work setting. We volunteer at places like the Leonardo, Aquarium and Thanksgiving point to provide them opportunities to work on the unwritten rules of work.
Volunteers assist with activities, set up and put down events, clean toys, help with office needs, and supervise children during parent education. Individuals between the ages of 16-24 can participate in the Peer Connection where they mentor an individual with social communication skills in a work setting.
I valued everything and appreciated everything at this main service site. I valued most watching the children learn and grow and get better at the tasks that they are struggling with. It is such a joy to see this. -Haley Brock, Salt Lake City, Utah
Volunteers will be required to fill out an application and anyone over 18 will need to do a background check.

Age Minimum Requirement: 16

Peer Connections

16-24
Become a peer mentor! We are currently in need of volunteers to be peers at our site at the Leonardo in downtown SLC. Peer Connections supports teens and young adults with social communication disorders in creating opportunities for career exploration, work-related social skills and career skill development in employment settings with their peers. Peer Connections gives teens the opportunity to: - Develop socialization skills with peers and coworkers - Gain hands-on employment experience - Learn to manage work schedules and respond to supervision - Develop coping strategies to manage stress, frustration, and anxiety in the workplace - Build lasting friendships

Easter Seals Volunteers

16
Starting January 20th Easter Seals will need 2-3 volunteers for their Leonardo site. This will be every Saturday from 11:30-2:30 for 9 weeks, and will need a commitment for all 9 weeks. You will need to fill out an application and meet for a quick interview/orientation, which will be held at Easter Seals Sandy office. Volunteers will be mentoring teens and young adults with high functioning autism. They will be responsible for supporting the student they are paired with in goals that focus on social and work skills, as well as helping guests at the Leo with hands-on activities. They must model appropriate behavior and can NOT be on their phones while volunteering. The Leonardo is a really fun museum and so is the volunteer position, we just need to make sure that they are mature enough to mentor. Ideal volunteers are interested in the following: - disabilities - mentoring - at risk youth - teaching - autism - working with young adults - behavioral intervention - goal setting - social skills Contact Maddy Pope at madisong@esgw.org for more information or to sign up!
